For the record, I have NEVER included a &quot;getting to know you&quot; activity in any of my staff development, precisely because I always felt those were a waste of time.  However, it's impossible for me to redeliver 16 hours of training effectively in 90 minutes, which is what my job most often entails.  That failure doesn't mean the training is worthless--just that it takes more time than most teachers want to spend since they've been burned before.  I don't know what the solution is.</description>

					<description>Whenever we have a new program, it involves at least 8 meetings in which much of the time is wasted with fishbowl activities about getting to know each other. Our district decided to launch a program to increase our students' use of higher-level thinking, but they came up with 26 different kinds of thinking. Good gravy! And this in the middle of a school year. So, yes, I must admit that I have the malaise of which you speak: if you're going to waste my time, do it quickly! LOL</description>
